About Me

Clinical Psychologist, Medico-Legal Expert and EMDR Consultant based in Liverpool

Dr Andrew Morgan, Clinical Psychologist

Hello, I’m Andrew

I’m Dr Andrew Morgan and I’m a Clinical Psychologist. I’ve been working in the NHS and private practice for over fifteen years.

Although I love working in the NHS, I set up this private practice so that I could have full control over the kinds of work I do and how I do it. This allows me to work in a way that is consistent with my values and that is always interesting and rewarding to me.

My Values

I believe that psychological distress can affect anyone who finds themselves in difficult circumstances. Even when we feel overwhelmed, this does not mean that there is something wrong with us. It also does not mean that we cannot do something about it. I believe both that life can be extremely difficult and that people have what it takes to cope, even if they sometimes need some additional support.

I try to provide therapy that respects the personal knowledge and expertise of the client, their aims, experiences, strengths and values, and combines this with my knowledge and expertise in psychology. This creates an approach that is unique to the individual while remaining grounded in evidence and clinical experience.

Whether I am working directly with a client, carrying out research or teaching, I take pride in doing my work to the highest standard possible. Being reliable and doing what I say I am going to do matters a lot to me.

My Experience

During my career, I’ve been fortunate to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and facing many different issues. I’ve worked in secure services, hospitals and community teams, with children, adults and older adults, as well as people with learning disabilities.

Earlier in my career, I worked as a Clinical Psychologist within a research team at the University of Liverpool. This gave me a different perspective on clinical practice. Research and teaching are parts of my work that I continue to enjoy.

In recent years, I have specialised in physical health, anxiety and trauma. I am particularly drawn to this work because people can experience anxiety and trauma for different reasons and in different ways, and no two situations are quite the same.

My Background

I grew up on the Wirral and, although I have moved around at times for work or study, I’ve always come back to Merseyside. I first moved away to study Philosophy and Politics at the University of Warwick. I was drawn to this because I wanted to understand how people think and how they can live meaningful lives.

I soon realised there were not a lot of jobs around for philosophers and so I had to make a career shift. My father was a Psychologist and worked at Liverpool Hope University. He encouraged me to try Psychology as he knew it was something I’d always had an interest in.

A few years later he was proven right. Clinical Psychology proved to be the perfect fit for me because it allowed me to put my understanding of how people think to practical use, to help them to live more meaningful lives.
